UM RUS PROJECT
UM RUS
Nubian Mining Company has been awarded an exploration license for Um Rus block following its participation in the international Bid-Round 1/2020 led by the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources and Egyptian Mineral Resource Authority (“EMRA”), for the exploration of gold and associated minerals in the highly prospective Eastern Desert region of the country.
- PROJECT OVERVIEW
Um Rus is located in the Central Eastern Desert. The block is approximately 12.5 km by 13.8 km and has an area of 172.5 km2. The center of the block is 52 km northwest of Marsa Alam, and 13 km south of Marsa Alam airport. The project is situated along the Red Sea coastline; the block is entirely within 20 km of the coast.
In the north of the block is the historic underground Um Rus Gold Mine located within the Um Rus Granitoid Pluton. The mine was last active in the early 1900s and underground exploration was carried out by EGSMA in the 1930s.

GEOLOGY
The geology of Egypt comprises Archean age (>2.5 Ga) crystalline basement rocks of the Saharan Craton in the west and younger juvenile Neoproterozoic (1000-750 Ma) rocks to the east. These Neoproterozoic rocks form the north-western section of the Arabian Nubian Shield (ANS), including the Central Eastern Desert (CED), as part of the Eastern Egyptian Desert, where the Um Rus block is located.
The Arabian Nubian Shield is one of the last remaining ‘frontier’ areas for gold and base metal exploration and Egypt’s the Eastern Desert has remained largely unexplored in the modern era.
Mineralization defined within the Um Rus Block is identified in the style of an orogenic gold deposit, and volcanic-hosted massive sulphide (VMS or VHMS) style.
- EXPENDITURE
NMC’s Expenditure on the Um Rus project for the current period exceeds the sum of $2 Million (Two Million United States Dollars). Where its minimum expenditure commitment for the 2 years exploration period is $5.2 Million (Five Million United States Dollars).
